The census isn’t only about counting teachers who are running classes. It’s about understanding our whole community. 

Whether you’re teaching every week, sharing occasionally, volunteering behind the scenes, taking a break, or preparing to teach in the future, your response helps create a more accurate picture of our community. 

The more people who participate, the more useful the information becomes for planning, supporting teachers, and telling the story of Ren Xue’s global impact. 

Yes. 

Please complete the census even if you haven’t taught recently. 

One of the purposes of the census is to understand where teachers are in their journey. Some people are actively teaching, some are preparing to teach, some are taking a break, and others are contributing in different ways. 

All of these situations are valuable for us to understand. 

Absolutely. 

Many qualified teachers share REN XUE in ways that don’t involve formal classes. 

You might: 

• introduce friends or family to Ren Xue 
• use Ren Xue in your professional work 
• support a Ren Xue organization 
• volunteer your skills 
• contribute to projects behind the scenes 
• support your local community 

These contributions are all important and are part of the picture we’re trying to understand. 

If you contribute through organizational work or other forms of sharing, you should complete the census. 

The discussion groups highlighted that people working in administration, education, communications, technology, governance, and other organizational roles sometimes don’t see themselves as “teaching.” 

Your contribution is still valuable, and we want to capture the many different ways qualified teachers support Ren Xue. 

Sharing Ren Xue informally includes any way you introduce, support, or apply Ren Xue outside formal teaching. 

Examples include: 

• talking with friends or family about Ren Xue 
• integrating Ren Xue into your profession 
• supporting parenting with Ren Xue principles 
• volunteering within Ren Xue organizations 
• introducing people to Ren Xue resources 
• supporting your local Ren Xue community 

If you’re unsure whether something counts, it’s usually better to include it. 

Yes. 

Everyone receiving the census is a qualified Ren Xue teacher. 

The census recognizes that people’s circumstances change. You may not currently be teaching, but your response still helps us understand our community and how we can better support teachers over time. 

The census uses conditional questions.

This means you’ll only see questions that are relevant to your situation.

For example:

• teachers who are teaching formally are asked about classes, methods, and numbers reached
• people sharing informally receive questions about informal sharing
• people who are not currently teaching are asked questions relevant to their circumstances

This keeps the survey shorter and avoids asking unnecessary questions.

That’s completely fine. 

The census recognizes that many qualified teachers are still building confidence, developing their practice, or waiting for the right opportunity. 

We’re interested in understanding where teachers are now—not where they think they should be. 

Please let us know. 

Many teachers move in and out of active teaching depending on family, work, health or other life circumstances. 

Understanding these patterns helps us think about how best to support teachers throughout their journey. 

During our discussion sessions, many people reflected that we all carry different ideas about what it means to be a teacher. 

For the purposes of this census, we’re interested in understanding all the ways qualified teachers share Ren Xue. 

If you’re unsure, think broadly about the different ways you contribute and share your experience. 

Reasonable estimates are perfectly acceptable. 

We’re looking for an overall picture rather than precise statistics. 

If you’re estimating how many people you’ve reached, an approximate figure is all that’s needed. 

The information is combined with responses from teachers around the world to create an overall picture of the Ren Xue community. 

Individual responses are not used to evaluate teachers. 

Instead, the information helps us: 

• understand our global community 
• identify trends over time 
• improve planning 
• support teachers more effectively 
• communicate the impact of Ren Xue 
• provide evidence for reports and funding opportunities where appropriate

Yes. 

High-level summaries will continue to be shared with the community, and more detailed reporting will develop over time. 

As our annual census grows, we’ll be able to tell richer stories about our collective work and how our community is evolving. 

Keeping the core questions consistent allows us to compare results from year to year. 

This helps us identify meaningful changes and measure growth over time.
