You will need an Internet connection and working webcam (in-built or external) that will support group sessions on Zoom and streaming videos through Vimeo - test your connection here.
Online Session Structure
Live online sessions provide a valuable opportunity to deepen understanding of what you are learning. Therefore, attendance is necessary.
Study Groups are held every other weekend and last about 90 mins. They are scheduled to start anytime between 7am and 8pm in your time zone and are led by experienced Ren Xue teachers. Trainees are grouped in cohorts of approximately 15 people based on time zones and the sessions are scheduled at an accessible time of day. These sessions focus on discussion about specific topics (refer to the course schedule once registered) and provide an opportunity to ask questions. They also cover teaching Tong Yuan.
A minimum of 80% of Study Groups must be attended live online. If it is not possible to attend a session live (no more than 20% of sessions), the session needs to be watched via the recording before to the next scheduled Study Group.
Group Practice sessions are held mid-week, once per week and last about 60 minutes, led by experienced Ren Xue teachers. These focus on practicing Tong Yuan together. The scheduled time of these sessions usually alternates weekly between 2 or 3 different times to allow participants in various time zones an opportunity to attend live.
Group Practice offers the chance to make progress with the methods and experience how different teachers lead sessions. Therefore, we recommend that you attend as many sessions as possible live online. If you are unable to attend a Group Practice live online, we ask that you watch it via the recording prior to the next scheduled Group Practice.
Buddy Groups are smaller groups of 4-8 fellow trainees (without teachers), typically in a similar time zone. Group members self-organize a convenient time to meet and are given topics to discuss and exercises to practice based on the course schedule.
Buddy Groups are held as often as you like. We recommend meeting at least once every two weeks. As this training program is delivered virtually, everyone’s active participation really strengthens the group and provides everyone in the course with a much richer experience. Lifelong friendships are often developed during these courses, which allows for the creation of a strong support network for future Ren Xue teachers and the community.
Time Commitment
- In order to complete this 14-week course over two terms, you can expect to spend 98-140 hours (7-10 hours per week). This takes into account the study topics (reading and video material) and group sessions. We recommend committing additional time to your own daily practice.
- Attend a minimum of 7 of the 8 Study Group sessions live online.
- Attend as many Group Practice sessions live online as possible.
- Self-organize and attend Buddy Group sessions at least every two weeks.
- Watch the recording of any group session you are unable to attend live online before the next scheduled group session.
- Complete Module 1 (approx 5 hours) before the first study group.
